David Mitchell’s acclaimed novel, a hopscotch of tales intertwined over time, isn’t the most obvious candidate for adaptation. Tom Tykwer and Matrix creators Andy and Lana Wachowski share credit for writing and directing. The cast (including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Jim Broadbent) is top notch, but The Tree of Life may seem as simple as Dick and Jane in comparison.
