That whole bit about James Kirk meeting (old) Spock—wasn’t that a bit far-fetched?
BEST EXPLANATION: What’s far-fetched? Kirk is forcibly removed from the Enterprise, and dispatched via an escape pod to the surface of Delta Vega, an icy planet near Vulcan. He lands a conveniently short and navigable distance from a cave dwelling in which he meets a Spock from an alternative timeline—an unwanted guest himself, banished here 129 years ago (so he could witness the very-recent destruction of his home planet of Vulcan). All of which is explained to Kirk before Spock Prime mentions, almost off-handedly: oh, there’s a Federation facility not far from here—maybe we should go visit? Yeah…we can…believe that…kinda…
But, how long has Spock Prime been on Delta Vega? And if he was here long enough to know of this nearby research outpost, then why didn’t he do anything to save his planet? Don’t get us wrong, we liked the movie just fine—but there are some big questions that defy explanation.
