Genre: Action-Adventure
Even as the firearms and other ballistic weapons featured in video games become increasingly high-tech (and lethal), there’s a small but devoted sub-set of virtual warriors who prefer to dispense their violence via the sharp edge of a blade. These fans will undoubtedly welcome the imminent return of swordsman extraordinaire Ryu Hayabusa, who, at the beginning of this slash-centric title, has been recruited by Japan’s Self Defense Force to investigate and vanquish a new terrorist threat. Ninja Gaiden 3 will feature a host of new game mechanics — including a slide maneuver to get Ryu through tight spaces — and some new outfits. And while the developers have stated that some of the more extreme violence will be toned down, they have promised the notoriously difficult series will retain its steep (but rewarding) learning curve.
