You’ve also included taxidermy in your new collection.
There are classic deer heads that I found at an antique store for $75, and I made masks for them. I thought about the memories of the deer when they were alive and embroidered all the things they would have seen in the forest on their masks.
Is there some particular appeal to trying to get inside the mind of an animal?
They live in the immediate. They’re right there in the present all the time, which I think is incredible. It’s that purity. It’s a no-pretense thing. There’s no baggage. There’s no game. All the stuff that we find ourselves doing to ourselves, they don’t have that.
