GoldenEye 007
James Bond has always created merchandizing mania, whether he’s selling booze, toys, watches — or video games. Especially video games. One of the biggest Bond tie-in products in the franchise’s 50 years is the GoldenEye 007 video/computer game, which went on sale Aug. 25, 1997. It sold more than 2 million copies before 1998 was over, won Game of the Year from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences and helped bring to prominence the first-person-shooter format. But GoldenEye 007 doesn’t take home the prize for First Bond Video Game; that honor goes to 1983’s Atari-friendly James Bond 007.
