In this feature directed by Todd Haynes, Bale plays a journalist in a Citizen Kane-like attempt to chronicle the mysterious disappearance of a fictitious glam-rock star, Brian Slade. Though it did poorly at the box office, the film was nominated for a Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
