Bale brings a demonic wit to the murderous character of Patrick Bateman in Mary Harron’s adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel. Bale was originally dropped from the project when the studio offered the role to Leonardo DiCaprio — who was later convinced by Gloria Steinem, Bale’s future stepmother, to abandon the film.
