In a performance that earned him the Academy Award for best supporting actor, Bale plays Dicky Eklund, a former boxer-turned-junkie. After hitting rock bottom in prison, Eklund emerges on a quest for redemption and helps his brother, played by Mark Wahlberg, win an upset victory and claim the welterweight title.
