Show: Bored to Death
Jonathan Ames, the main character on Brooklyn-based comedy series Bored to Death—which was created by a different man also named Jonathan Ames—is a struggling, unhappy writer. And he knows one fact about detectives: they’re pretty darn cool. So he decides to try his hand at sleuthing, and—even though his investigative skills are far from trained and his P.I. license is nonexistent—his excitement about the work makes him a joy, and a cautionary tale, for anyone who ever dreamed of doing their own detective work. New York City, that classic detective milieu, plays Watson to his Holmes.
Case File: “The Case of the Lonely White Dove,” from season one, finds Ames hunting down a Russian singer in Brighton Beach.
