Show: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
Okay, so cartoon detective mascot Scooby-Doo doesn’t actually solve many crimes. More often, he and human pal Shaggy go off to look for food while Fred, Daphne and Velma do the legwork. Still, all the creepy old men in all the creepy cartoon places would still be creeping around in masks if it weren’t for Scooby’s luck and the energy born of his love of Scooby Snacks. He may not be the smartest sleuth dog in the pack, but Scooby and his gang have been solving crimes for more than four decades. Here’s a hint at how much Scooby matters in the TV-sleuth world: Buffy’s friends on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not technically detectives themselves, referred to their group as the “Scooby gang” when it was time to solve a mystery.
Case File: The very first episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, which aired in September of 1969, has the gang investigating a suit of armor that comes alive under a full moon. Ruh-roh!
