Other franchises on this list started with an inspired premise or an original execution. Not so with this one, a series of slapdash Hollywood parodies. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer — the masterminds behind the likes of Date Movie, Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans — claim their movies are spoofs, but that’s not wholly accurate. Spoof movies have jokes. In place of any actual humor, these films have an endless series of inane, dated references: a character from a famous movie shows up, says their name, then gets hit by something. Repeat for 80 minutes. This would be bad enough for one movie, but the pair have made four films entirely like this. Though 2008’s Disaster Movie, was a financial flop, Friedberg and Seltzer aren’t done with us yet: their sharp critique of Twilight, Vampires Suck, opens Aug. 18.
