As a Harvey Weinstein-like studio mogul, Cruise gamely crams into a fat suit and does comedy as broad as he’s ever done it. It’s over the top and completely lacking in subtlety, but also quite possibly the best part of the movie. Hoping to keep his part under wraps, the studio kept his scenes out of the trailer and commercials, and released no stills or pre-publicity shots (hence our use of a generic Tropic Thunder premiere picture — you’ll still have to watch the movie to see Cruise in a bald wig and gold chain).
