There’s one scene that everyone remembers, and for good reason. The entirety of Aaron Sorkin’s script leads up to the moment when Cruise’s Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee squares off against Jack Nicholson’s Colonel Nathan Jessep in the courtroom. And while Jack does his loud Nicholson thing, it’s the stone-cold-serious Cruise — who comes off as a petulant child for much of the film — who pulls off the gravitas. Put it this way: There would be no “You can’t handle the truth” without the “I want the TRUTH!”
