For more than a century, movies have given us countless scenes celebrating the glorious pleasures of a well-cooked meal. In fact, we did a gallery on the subject not so long ago.
Answering a journalistic impulse to investigate and present all facets of a story, we decided to take a closer look at eating scenes that are memorable for all the wrong reasons. After some research and debate, we present some of filmdom’s least savory meals—food scenes that run the gamut from Merely Unappetizing to Horribly Unspeakable.
Films with gross-out eating scenes that we looked at but did not chose for this list include: Audition, The Tin Drum and Pasolini’s Salò. We chose to ignore the extended jokes that are the Human Centipede movies.
