Business is business, but why is Chris Brown still being invited to perform at awards shows? No, seriously.
Brown’s performance was bad on multiple levels. The R&B-artist-turned-rapper opened his show on a BMX bike, his set staged in front of a skateboard half pipe. Performing in a jacket with no shirt, he wasted no time getting into the electro-fueled dancing of his hit song, “Turn Up the Music.” It’s hard to argue that Brown isn’t a talented performer or dancer, but on top of the discomfort of knowing we’re watching someone who beat up Rihanna, there was also the fact that he was lip-syncing…very, very badly. Given the rigor of his dancing, it’s usually somewhat excusable, but this was perhaps the worst case of lip-syncing since Britney Spears’ zombie era.
Also, word to Chris Brown: for someone who should supposedly be trying to win back the hearts of America and get into people’s good graces, you sure do look incredibly sinister. It would seem prudent to try to soften one’s image after such an incident, but considering that he’s not quite ready to repent in the public eye, maybe it’s not all that surprising. The look on Brown’s face during this performance was downright maniacal.
