Justin Bieber’s acceptance speech for Social Artist of the Year was surprisingly touching. The night’s first winner, Bieber was honored for his massive online presence—an honor that struck a particular chord with the teen heartthrob.
Biebz was visibly moved while accepting the award, no doubt aware of how the Internet and social networking made his career: “I want to thank all my fans because the Internet is where I got my start, and all my fans have helped me get to this position.” He went on to give special thanks to his behind-the-scenes mastermind and manager Scooter Braun, as well as mentor Usher.
Proving just how socially linked-in the singer is, he even took a high school fan with him as his date to the show. Eighteen-year-old Cady Eimer had been asking the “swaggy” star to her senior prom over Twitter for several years and through her website, but Bieber wasn’t able to attend due to a schedule conflict.
What’s the next best thing? Oh, just an awards show in Las Vegas. And Justin Bieber hugging you on live television. “I couldn’t make it [to prom] so I said I need you to fly to the Billboard Awards and you can be my date,” Bieber told People magazine.
His performance of his single “Boyfriend” may not have lived up to the hype, but he was otherwise adorable.
