A beauty queen turned model and actress, Berry accomplished a huge feat when she became the first black woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress, for her performance in 2001’s Monster’s Ball. After she delivered one of the more memorable (and tearful) acceptance speeches of all time, it seemed Berry was just at the beginning of what was sure to be an amazing acting career. But while she continues to prosper as a spokeswoman and model, her acting career has never again reached Oscar heights. The biggest disappointment was her starring role in 2004’s Catwoman, which went down in history as one of the biggest box-office busts ever. With an estimated budget of $100 million, the film grossed only $40 million in the U.S. Her most recent role was in the celebrity cameo-thon New Year’s Eve and she will be next be seen in the shark thriller Dark Tide.
