Fast cutting is, more often than not, an editorial trick used to punch up less than compelling footage. But it works in this minute-forty trailer. An appropriately industrial take of a Led Zeppelin staple — by Karen O and Tattoo composer Trent Reznor — is a suitable engine to drive the images forward, even if the line “We come from the land of the ice and snow” seems more than a bit on point. We especially like the intercuts that bring us up the tree-lined driveway. The menace grows with every return to the long tracking shot (in stark contrast to the barrage of Scandinavian gloom and doom): when the house is finally revealed, curiosity has been replaced by dread.
