Leaner and tauter and half the length of the film’s two-minute-30-second first trailer, the second clip ditches the voice-over narration and spends its first 30 seconds on a tightly-edited précis of a crunchy hotel-room fight (which ends with Michael Fassbender’s lifeless body being dragged off frame). Gina Carano, a former MMA champ, has a fetching swagger and throws a punch like no girl we ever met on a playground. It’s not the freshest of plots—a highly skilled operative double-crossed and on the run—but Carano (and director Steven Soderbergh) may have given it a much-needed makeover.
MEMORABLE IMAGE: Fassbender’s character—sent to kill the covert agent played by Carano—is probably wishing he ended the evening after coffee and dessert.
MEMORABLE LINE: “You shouldn’t think of her as being a woman. That would be a mistake.”
