Semi-regularly in Hollywood, it happens that two films about the same topic will hit theaters at the relatively same time. In 1989, within months of each other, two movies about policeman and their canine companions were released. Turner and Hooch is by the far the more memorable one, not because it was necessarily better than K-9, but because it stars Tom Hanks (as opposed to Jim Belushi), has a more striking-looking dog (a sloppy, droopy-faced Dogue de Bordeaux as opposed to a German Shepherd) and, uh, is named TURNER AND HOOCH.
