What happens when worlds collide? In the opening of this film, director Lars von Trier imagines a catastrophe where a planet called Melancholia crashes into Earth. The rest of the film traces the lives of two sisters played by Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg in the lead up to the apocalypse.
