Willie (Billy Bob Thornton) is many things: a con man, a philanderer, a liar and an unexpected mall Santa Claus. Most importantly, he’s a drunk. And his only goal at Christmas is to rob the department store where he and his buddy work as Santa and Santa’s helper. Meanwhile, he frequents pubs, knocks back shots and looks absolutely haggard. In fact, he gives new meaning to drinking on the job, busting a windshield with an empty bottle as he heads to work. Most of the movie gives off the exact opposite of the Christmas spirit — it’s full of lawbreaking and taking the Lord’s name in vain. (We’re talking incessant profanity.) But, as in just about every holiday movie, the troublemaking Santa ends up learning the true nature of the season after he befriends a little boy in need of some guidance.
