Martial arts involve disciplined movements and quick reflexes, achieved only after much waxing on and waxing off — and definitely not by consuming several bottles of alcohol, right? Not necessarily! If one practices drunken boxing the way Jackie Chan’s character does in The Legend of Drunken Master (and one probably should not), guzzling lots of spirits can make for an effective combatant. Of course, even he has a limit. Chan originally played his comedic version of real-life Chinese hero Wong Fei-hung in 1978’s Drunken Master. In this 1994 sequel, he’s still young and fighting the drunken fight. When someone expresses concern about his drinking from two bottles simultaneously, she’s told, “Don’t worry, it gives him power.” Also in the clip above (start about a minute in) he shows off such moves as “crazy corkscrew open wine bottle” and “drunken monkey.”
