10. Rita Ora in Ulyana Sergeenko
Twenty-two year-old British songstress Rita Ora has been on the cusp of pop stardom for seemingly years. This peach Ulyana Sergeenko gown she wore to the Brit Awards does her no favors. Never mind her awkward leaning/almost-falling pose, or the fact that the dress is way too long. The baggy bodice of the backless dress, combined with its wrinkled satin and unfinished seams, dim whatever shining moment Ora hoped to have.

9. Ke$ha’s side butt in Givenchy
Pop star and glitter aficionado Ke$ha loves to push the envelope, so maybe she thought this Givenchy number for the Billboard Music Awards was tame. And from the front, it is: this little black dress with a ruffled bodice looks perfectly refined. But the extreme side slit—almost to her natural waistline—is clear overexposure. Any gust of wind would have incited a major wardrobe malfunction. Trust us, side butt will not be taking off.

8. Julianne Hough in Jenny Packham
We know she’s an accomplished dancer, but in this Jenny Packham frock, Julianne Hough looks like she could have literally walked off the stage of Dancing with the Stars. Hough arrived at the Emmys on the arm of her brother Derek Hough, a nominee for his DWTS choreography, but she stole focus with her sloppy look.

7. Zosia Mamet in Honor
Oh, Shosh. The Girls actress’ profile went up a few notches in 2013, but unfortunately her fashion sense didn’t follow suit. The graphic floral Impressionist print on this Honor gown she wore to the Emmys might have worked, but the dress is marred by a bizarre leather bust covering on the bodice. It looks like Mamet is wearing an oversized cartoon moustache on her chest—not, we imagine, what she was aiming for.

6. Florence Welch in Miu Miu
The fiery-haired lead singer of Florence + the Machine usually impresses with a Gothic, romantic look all her own. But this Miu Miu dress for The Great Gatsby premiere in Cannes falls short. The pink and black polka dot print would look better on pajama pants, and the pink purse is too matchy. Worst of all are the chunky yellow and black platform sandals, which seem to belong to another outfit entirely.

5. Justin Bieber in gas mask
Biebs is on his way to becoming the Michael Jackson of his generation with the head-covering gas mask he wore during a visit to the Acne store in London. It was unclear whether this was meant to be a joke or a disguise, but the singer liked it so much that he donned it again several weeks later. Between this and his ubiquitous drop-crotch pants, the 19-year-old pop star is living on the sartorial edge.

4. Z LaLa in silver star concoction
Z LaLa’s Facebook page states, “I am a spirit from the real LaLa Land, and every day I am a different character.” The day of the Billboard Music Awards, the 23-year-old was certainly channeling a silver pinwheel. Taking a page from the Lady Gaga stylebook, the singer (née Tania Mauradian) sported a 3D metallic getup that looks gaudy and uncomfortable. Perhaps she was trying to be a one-woman reflective solar panel?

3. Anne Hathaway in Prada
Anne Hathaway’s pink Prada halter dress caused quite a stir on the Oscars red carpet, thanks to poorly placed darts on the bodice that drew undue attention to the actress’s nipples. The gown was a puzzling stylistic departure for Hathaway, who usually favors glitzy, glam looks. Afterwards, it was revealed that the dress was a last minute sub from the Valentino she’d originally planned to wear, which was scrapped after she learned that another Oscar attendee was wearing a similar style.

2. Kim Kardashian in Givenchy
There’s a tasteful way to dress while expecting (see Kate Middleton) and then there’s this. This Met Ball gown, designed by Kim Kardashian’s go-to designer Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, completely misses the mark. The floral pattern is reminiscent of a curtain—or a castoff from the Mrs. Doubtfire set—and the mock turtleneck design is ill-flattering.

1. Miley Cyrus in nude latex bikini
Miley’s schizophrenic fashion this year has landed her on both our best and worst dressed lists. For the VMAs performance heard round the globe, Cyrus initially wore a furry gray leotard with a teddy bear graphic before stripping down to reveal a nude-colored latex bikini. Leaving aside her suggestive dancing, this two-piece serves no other stylistic purpose apart from showing a lot of skin.
