Romy (Mira Sorvino) and Michele (Lisa Kudrow) may be bubble-headed Los Angeles fashionistas, but at least they’re happy. Or rather, they don’t realize that they’re unhappy until they go back to Arizona for their high school reunion and try to impress everyone by pretending to be something they’re not (successful businesswomen and the inventors of Post-Its).
Once back on school grounds, they’re again the dorky outcasts they were when the cheerleaders used to prank them. Too bad, since the usually cheerful duo have so much chemistry together, whether they’re trying to order a “businesswomen’s special” at a diner or arguing over which one is the Mary and which one is the Rhoda. It’s that bond — which cannot be severed by the who’s-cuter argument nor the deus-ex-machina appearance of Sandy Frink (Alan Cumming), the geek-made-good who is still crushing on Michele – that has made this film a cult favorite.
