Any student of recent Oscar lore knows of the sad tale of sound mixer Kevin O’Connell, who has gone win-less over a remarkable 20 ceremonies (a small fortune in tux rentals) and must surely want to beat a pulp every well-meaning sap who offers, “You know, it’s an honor just to be nominated…” Kevin first got dressed up for Oscar night in 1983 (for his work on Terms of Endearment), his latest (and we certainly hope not final) nomination was for 2007’s Transformers.
Most Career Nominations that Have Resulted in Wins: 4 Sound editor Mark Berger has gone a perfect 4 for 4, with nomination/wins in 1980, 1984, 1985, and 1996. We’re guessing he’s not very welcome in the O’Connell household. You know, because of that whole ugly sound mixer vs. sound editor thing.
