This clan of Oscar-overacheivers are the Newmans, who, for several generations, have established themselves as something of a film-scoring dynasty. The most famous of them, Alfred Newman (who scored movies as varied as Gunga Din and Airport, and should never be confused with this man) earned 45 nominations himself (3rd all-time) and won 9 (second only to Walt “I Even Win When I’m Dead” Disney). The remaining noms have been earned by his brother Lionel and Emil, and sons David and Thomas (who’s scored many Steven Soderbergh films, including Side Effects).
