The Minneapolis television station WJM doesn’t get the highest ratings, and so at first it wouldn’t seem like the place to work if you want to get famous. But look again. Perhaps it’s the familial atmosphere at the scrappy network—spend enough time there (and don’t we all spend too much time at the office?) and it will start to seem like your work friends are your relatives. They’ll be so supportive that you’ll know you can “make it on your own”—especially if you are a single career woman trying to get ahead all alone in the big city. The proof is in the pudding: spend enough time with your co-worker Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore) and, if history is any indication, you’re as likely as not to end up with an entire spin-off just for you. (The spin-off potential should also cushion the blow when WJM eventually goes under.)
Reasons to send your resume: opportunity for advancement, opportunity for hat-tossing
