This is a song about a woman who disappears into her TV and the man who wants her back. Inspired by an Iggy Pop bad trip in which he thought a television was eating his gal, “TVC 15” mixes honky-tonk piano with a herky-jerk chorus likely reflective of Bowie’s hyped-up, strung-out, cocaine-stricken mind. It sounds unlike anything else in his long career. And though it may appear to be nothing more than a novelty song, this document of his Thin White Duke/Man Who Fell to Earth period is the strongest track from one of his greatest albums.
