Josh Brolin, the undersung star of No Country for Old Men, locates the fear behind the swagger in young Dubya. The film lurches from the sweetness of the George-and-Laura love story (she’s played very appealingly by Elizabeth Banks) to the chilling cartoonery of the planning for the Iraq war. A pity, though, that W. seems to be missing what most other Oliver Stone films — from Platoon to JFK to Nixon — have never lacked: A point of view. Brolin’s game, but there’s no real character for him to play.
