In his fourth outing as Tony host, the actor affectionately known as NPH has gotten almost frighteningly comfortable: smooth, a little smug, but still the best thing to happen to the Tonys since Rosie O’Donnell was allowed in mixed company. Highs: the splashy opening number (a clever run-through of the entire Broadway season) and the “I’d Like to Be in a TV Show” number, with Megan Hilty, Andrew Rannells and Laura Benanti. Lows: the running gags about Mike Tyson, who did an awkward dance turn in the opening number and looked pretty glum thereafter.
