Green Day had to cancel their most recent tour after lead singer Billy Joe Armstrong entered rehab. Now they’re coming to SXSW for a March 15 set at the Moody Theater, a venue with a maximum capacity of 2,750—far cozier than the stadiums the band usually fills. While the intimate set may be a way of making up the canceled shows to their fans, the group is at SXSW on other business, too. Green Day has two documentaries screening at SXSW: Broadway Idiot, a film based on the stage adaptation of their American Idiot album, and ¡Quatro!, which follows the band as they record their latest project, a trilogy of albums called ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre!
Regardless of motivation, Green Day has always put on incredible live performances. Fans should jump at the chance to see them in such a small venue before the group heads out on their next arena tour, which kicks off on March 28.
