Fox is on board for another ride with Murder on the Orient Express. The studio is currently in talks with Ridley Scott, Mark Gordon and Simon Kinberg to produce a remake to the 1974 detective drama from Sidney Lumet, Variety reports.
Though there is currently no director or writer attached to the project, the success of the original film alone is likely to attract interest. The Lumet’s film — based on Agatha Christie’s 1934 novel by the same name — starred Albert Finney as the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot investigating the murder of an American tycoon aboard a train. The ensemble cast of suspects included Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Colin Blakely, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave and Michael York. The film was praised by critics upon its release and was nominated for several Oscars, with Bergman scoring a win in the best supporting actress category.
It’s unclear whether the new film will be a period piece or a contemporary update, though Variety notes that the “Orient Express train from Paris to Istanbul stopped running in 1977, although a private company still uses the vintage coaches.”
