Apparently the X-Men haven’t seen Back to the Future, because in their latest adventure — the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past — Professor Xavier sends Wolverine back to the past to change history, even though pretty much every movie ever has confirmed that doing so without messing up the future is not as easy as it looks. (For a hint at the kinds of problems that may arise, check out the comic book storyline of the same name.)

On the other hand, the idea of the X-Men fighting alongside their younger selves is pretty cool, and the double time periods allow it to function as a sequel to both The Last Stand and First Class. James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart plays Xavier young and old; Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen play Magneto. Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine. The movie also stars Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Ellen Page as Shadowcat, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Halle Berry as Storm and Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is due in theaters May 23, 2014.
