Bon Temps, Louisiana
Located in the fictional Renard Parish, the antebellum town of Bon Temps provides the moss-draped setting to the story of Sookie Stackhouse and how she finds her place in a world populated by vampires, shape-shifters, and werewolves.
POINTS OF INTEREST: The Stackhouse residence (which belonged to Sookie’s last grandmother), the Compton house, the Bon Temps Church, and Merlotte’s Bar and Grill (the town’s only bar, it offers employment to a good number of characters)
LIVABILITY: While bon temps suggests a “good time,” unless you’re a model-thin 20-something with good facial structure and plenty of sullen attitude, this town is probably not for you.
LITERARY INSPIRATION: Series creator Alan Ball adapted the rich world—including Sookie and the town of Bon Temps—created by Charlaine Harris in her bestselling Southern Vampire Mysteries series.
SHOOTING LOCATION(S): Production of the HBO series takes place in multiple locales in California (including Hawthorne, Long Beach, and Pasadena) and Louisiana (Clinton, Mansfield, and Baton Rouge)—and the Warner Bros. studio in Burbank.
