In a bad year for new musicals, it was especially nice to see Gerard Alessandrini’s recurring satirical revue return after a three-year absence. As usual, four performers (who seem like 14) land their best blows by turning Broadway’s own products back on their perpetrators: Elena Roger’s lackluster Evita (“Just a/ little lack of/ star qual-i-teee”), Matthew Broderick’s bland Gershwin recycling, Nice Work if You Can Get It (“’S Wonder Bread/ ’S mayonnaise”). They don’t spare the tougher targets either, lampooning the low-tech pretentiousness of Once and skewering The Book of Mormon’s creators for beating Broadway at its own mercenary game.
