Opens: Aug. 3
Starring: Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel
Genre and rating: Sci-fi–action, not yet rated
Plot: In a dystopian future in which two empires are at war, a factory worker — suffering from strange and violent nightmares — begins to suspect he may be a trained spy.
Spin: Among the stars considered for the lead role of Douglass Quaid (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1990 film) were Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender. The producers went with Farrell — who, despite lacking a recent hit on his résumé, has turned in some fine supporting work in films like In Bruges, Horrible Bosses and the sadly overlooked Fright Night.
