It made sense to think of the Force — the power that surrounds us and penetrates us and binds the galaxy together — as a truly universal and cosmic energy. But this? To learn that the Force is something that has to be checked out on lab equipment (conveniently found onboard Amidala’s ship) and has established levels (apparently, 20,000 per cell is enough to get you a corner office at Jedi HQ), takes all the fun and mystery out of a great concept.
WHAT OTHERS SAID:
“…I grew up on Star Wars; I’ve seen the Star Wars movies hundreds of times; I can recite them chapter and verse, and never once did anyone ever say to me or did it occur to me to say, ‘What is the Force, exactly? Can you explain that for me, better than Alec Guinness does?”
