For more than 35 years, Austin City Limits — originally conceived to spotlight the rich music traditions of the Lone Star State — has become a much celebrated stage for an incredible array of music (including rock, folk, jazz) performed by artists all over the world. For most of its history, the PBS show was broadcast from a building on the University of Texas campus — last year, production was moved to a brand-new facility in downtown Austin. Over the past few years, ACL was the recipient of two major honors: in 2003, it became the first (and, at this time, only) TV show to receive the National Medal of Arts, and in 2010, it was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
NOTABLE GUESTS: Neko Case, Buck Owens, Tom Waits, Oasis, Marty Robbins, Spoon, John Prine, Merle Haggard, Kitty Wells, and Lucinda Williams (below, singing “Drunken Angel”)
