Margin Call is one of last year’s more surprising little successes. A film about a single night at a Wall Street investment firm when the masters of that little universe discover that their business is about to implode, the feature from first-time director J.C. Chandor has a robust cast — Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Simon Baker, Stanley Tucci, Zachary Quinto, Paul Bettany. The film is very, very talky. It’s basically scene after scene of groups of characters explaining and re-explaning what the hell is about to happen. Which is what makes this recut, of a 4 a.m. boardroom scene in which big boss Jeremy Irons is finally made aware of his firm’s predicament, that much more absurd and funny. It’s worth watching, even if you haven’t seen the movie. Play it loud!
