Based on the novel by Michael Crichton (who went on to write Jurassic Park), this early 70s movie finds a group of scientists attempting to crack the mystery surrounding an alien disease that makes its way to Earth following a satellite crash. A small town in the American West is virtually wiped out by the virus, and the scientists spend much the film in an advanced underground lab, dubbed “Wildfire,” trying to crack its code. With little action, but much tension, Andromeda is one of director Robert Wise’s (The Haunting, The Day the Earth Stood Still, West Side Story, The Sound of Music) great genre exercises.
