Quentin Tarantino’s hit two-part film chronicles the quest of the Bride (Uma Thurman) to avenge an attempt on her life and the — supposed — murder of her unborn child. For the entirety of the films she is out to, duh, kill Bill, her backstabbing ex. But along the way she does serious damage elsewhere, including an epic one-woman-against-dozens-of-gangsters (the Crazy 88s) bloodbath. As entertaining as that brawl is, it’s only the lead-in for the final duel in Kill Bill Vol. 1 against O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), “queen of the Tokyo underworld.” O-Ren is on the Bride’s hit list because of her involvement in the attack against the Bride. The two were at one point allies in the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, a group of assassins, led and trained by Bill. But that relationship obviously soured, which brings the Bride to unleash her fury wearing a yellow leather jumpsuit and carrying a sword made by the famed swordsmith Hattori Hanzo. O-Ren scoffs at the Bride, who had recently risen from a coma, and says that she “might not last five minutes.” Just wait until she sees what the Hattori Hanzo can actually do.
