Above It All

I recently toured the new High Line Park in New York with the architect Ric Scofidio. Ric’s firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed the park with James Cormer’s landscape design outfit Field Operations. If you’re not aware of it, the High Line is a unique park built into the track bed of an abandoned elevated railway line 30 feet above street level on the west side of Manhattan. The trains stopped running in 1980 and the neglected tracks fell into decay, until some local residents formed an organization to re-think how they might be put to some public purpose. It turned out to be a pretty spectacular purpose.

My trusty Time.com video producer Vanessa Kaneshiro came along for the tour and later whipped up a five minute videocast that you can find here.
