The Los Angeles-set Once Bitten (1985) could have been a better satire, one that linked its protagonist’s thirst for rejuvenating blood more explicitly with the cougars and plastic surgery disasters of Hollywood. Still, it does offer the ageless Lauren Hutton as the Countess, a glamorous, ancient vamp who is running out of time to get the virgin blood she needs to stay youthful.
She manages to find a young, pre-fame Jim Carrey, playing a dorky teen who’s apparently the last male virgin in southern California. Soon, he’s walking around in the shadows like one of the undead; can he figure out the Countess’ plot and thwart it before she drains him completely? Bonus points to the Countess for having Blazing Saddles star Cleavon Little as her matter-of-factly gay manservant.
