Sarah Palin Defends Duck Dynasty Star Suspended For Anti-Gay Remarks

"Free speech is an endangered species"

A&E suspended Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson Wednesday for his recent anti-gay comments — he put homosexuals in the same category as “terrorists,” “prostitutes,” and “drunks,” — but the bearded star has one strong supporter: Sarah Palin.

Upon hearing about the backlash against Robertson, the former GOP vice presidential candidate wrote on Twitter, “Free speech is endangered species; those “intolerants” hatin’ & taking on Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing personal opinion take on us all.”

She also posted a photo with herself and the cast in solidarity:

The gay rights group GLAAD, on the other hand, wholeheartedly agreed with A&E’s decision to suspend Robertson from the show indefinitely.

“What’s clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike,” GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz said Wednesday. “By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value.”

'Duck Dynasty' is a stupid show with ignorant people.  I don't care who's doing what to whom in the bedroom, I don't care about religious preference...I watched one episode where they were standing around talking...taking their wives hunting...it was a boring, non-entertaining waste of time.  But then again, Americans do seem to be falling in education ratings.  America was a great place...now go to a Walmart and see what kind of people are walking around in middle America.  Zombies.

What's sad is that they are growing in support.

Sarah needs to stop talking in ebonics by the way...

She sure was against "free speech" when the Dixie Chicks simply said they were ashamed of George Bush.

Duck Dynasty is fully scripted, these people are liked because of the fake personalities written for them.  In reality they are not so nice.

People in my little congregationalist church sometimes pray for homosexuals.  They never beat on homosexuals, or even judge them personally - just their behavior.  The employers at my church would never fire a good worker because he is a homosexual.  And he would be promoted or not solely on work performance.

The Christians I know are the epitome of tolerance.   It appears the left with their media/Hollywood cronies, and the minority of gays - the ‘militant gays’ - are the intolerant ones.

How is this a freedom of speech issue? The government isn't arresting him. A free enterprise no longer wants to include him in filming because he no longer represents the image they want to condone. Sounds like a free enterprise doing business the way it wants to.

Where's Sarah's tweet supporting Martin Bashir's right to free speech?

We have been identified
(i.e., Christians, fundamentalists, etc.) by society as a problem because we
don’t support unbiblical views such as homosexuality, abortion, and moral
relativism. We have been vilified with accusations of intolerance, committing
hate speech, hatemongering, being against basic civil rights, that we are
bigoted, fanatical, narrow-minded, etc. Christians are made to look like the
unfair aggressors – with the help of the media. This leads to marginalization,
where our rights are effectively ignored and a double standard is introduced so
that socially acceptable groups like homosexuals, pro-abortionists, and the
general non-Christian population are seen as being more worthy of the
protection of the law than Christians. We are being attacked in the media and
the educational system and portrayed as irrational, religious zealots, who want
to oppress people, which conditions society to further marginalize us,
disregard our rights, and ignore our objections. Finally, persecution is
happening where Christians are penalized for not assisting in and supporting
the liberal social agenda. Examples of this are when Christians are fired for
expressing their disapproval of homosexuality (i.e., away from work on Facebook),
or not accepting evolution (losing teaching jobs), their businesses sued for
not providing services to homosexual weddings (i.e., baking a cake), physically
assaulted for preaching the gospel (at pro-homosexual rallies), arrested for
protesting against abortion mills, etc. And, it isn’t stopping there.

Once the persecution has begun it will increase because the
previous steps that support the persecution (labeling, marginalization, and
attacks) have not been neutralized, thereby leaving the momentum of persecution
to increase.........

I am a Christian and I am a lesbian!  Imagine that!!  I love the Lord with all my heart and my heart breaks for people who won't ever come to know Him because of negative remarks from other sinners!! That's right - WE ARE ALL SINNERS!!!  No sin is greater than the other.  People want to feel better about themselves - so they put others down - usually about matters that they think that they themselves are so above.  It's called JUDGING OTHERS - and it's also a sin!  I was happy to see duck dynasty spreading the word on the show.  I was waiting for the backlash - which always comes - when people are built up (like idols - another sin) and inevitably brought back down by the very forces that exalted them.  There is only ONE GOD! ONE SAVIOR JESUS! and everyone else - including Phil Robertson - are human beings that make mistakes.  Hey Phil please spend more time getting to know God and less on condemning others who are different than you!  God made us all different for a reason.

I'd really like people to acknowledge that he made some very sick racist comments as well. This is not just an 'anti-gay' issue, his comments about blacks/welfare/entitlement and civil rights were just as offensive.

I am not an American nor would i want to be but isn't their something about free speech? People entitled to opinions whether it be Sarah Palin or Phil Robertson. What is the difference with Kanye West saying he is the next Jesus wouldn't have offend people that are religious. People get their back up over things that make no difference in your life. Will you go to be angry over what someone says about you or move on, you don't know them in your personal life nor would I think you should care what is said. People are called a lot of things its when people start to go crazy and make it a big deal when we have greater issues. Let it go..... don't ruin your day over opinions in the end that is all they are.

God made them that way, they do not need your help.  You are not tolerant if you are praying trying to change them from what God intended.  You are a narcissist and a jerk. I pray for your intolerant bigoted soul Willy, just maybe if God pitties your ignorance you just might not burn in hell forever.

@CrossWinds Aww, poor people aren't allowed to hate who they want to hate.  I'm a christian, and I understand that it is important to understand that Jesus most important message was to love thy neighbor.  Also, to understand that throughout the history of the bible, it has been reinterpreted as new knowledge and society changes.  There's is nothing that definitively states in the original translation that homosexuals are wrong, just as the old translations state the world as being flat, black people being the cursed one's... etc etc.    We now understand that being gay is not a choice, with this knew knowledge we need to review each interpretation and analyzed where there may be some mistakes in our new translations.  Either way, the bible should not be used to preach hate, or to punish a societal group of people.

Romans 6:15-17............

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

@DustyLogan Whites, never needed a WET.  They aren't a protected class in America.  Understanding first that everyone stereotypes, is a reason why BET and such was, and to a degree still is necessary (look at stop and frisk statistics if you don't believe stereotyping is still a huge problem today).  Refer to a blue eyed brown eyed experiment and understand why people, of every group, need to feel as equals.  Educate yourself, then make a statemant.

KerryObsessed
KerryObsessed

@jenn.benteau There's a difference between others disagreeing, or even, taking offense to your opinions, and jeopardizing someone's livelihood and safety because of your opinion. Kanye comparing himself to Jesus, does not endanger Christians. Comparing homosexuals to terrorists, does, because we treat terrorism with forcible means. Homosexuals do not hurt anyone. Terrorists do.

@jenn.benteau"people" didn't suspend him, his employer, a private entity did, because he misrepresented their brand by saying things bigoted against gays and African Americans and women. Nothing shocking, everyone knows the family are idiots, but I guess they did not want them to express it.

@NotanUngulate @jenn.benteau What bothers me about this situation is that people run to the defense of this person screaming freedom of speech.  Not to long ago an ESPN reporter - who was black lost his job because he made racially insensitive comments towards a black athlete and his white wife on air.  I didn't see Sarah Palin running to his rescue and "shout injustice" "freedom of speech".  Here is the thing people, when you are employed by a corporation your freedom of speech goes out the door as many have a zero tolerance for making racial and homophobic comments.  You have the right to express anything you want however there are consequences to every action.

1 Corinthians 6 (New International Version)

8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers. 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

@SukeMadiq@Openminded1@Dwright@DustyLoganI agree with your previous comments, but you are being sold a line of CRAP when it comes to black folks, per Openminded's comments...and I appreciate his openness.  I could go on and on about this topic, but you get labeled racist for speaking on the issues.  How can you resolve racial issues unless it's an open dialogue to understand what each other thinks about the other?  Blacks are not helpless victims...but whites like you continually make them so.
