I can't believe Sir Elton John and Fun are rated lower than Taylor Swift! Don't get me wrong, I like her...but really?
@MemphisSunday Seriously? I see you're another one of those immature disrespectful people....and saying she sucked is just funny. What were you listening to? Kelly sounded incredible like usual and it seems like most people agree.
Last time I checked Melissa Etheridge was considered a rock singer, not country. What the heck?
Jack White's performance didn't remind me of anything Tim Burton, at all. He performed how he always does. I thought it was the best performance of the night.
Really surprised that whoever did this article gave Frank Ocean a B. Many thought he had one of the worst performance. I thought the song was odd but mainly he was so off key and pitchy. His performance didn't live up to all the hype. I thought L.L Cool J was terrible too. More so annoying and I ended up switching the channel.
American Idol doesn't produce any artists. They *find* artists and give them a chance. You haven't heard Phillip Phillips? They couldn't even produce him into a fancier, less wrinkled wardrobe last season.
Also, the Lumineers song is "Ho Hey" not "Hey Ho". It's not a rap ditty.
Carrie Underwood's dress "occasionally looked like she had turned into an alien breeding ground"? That's the best you can come up with for such a visually stunning display?
Jack White's "performance pulled straight out of Tim Burton’s playbook"? Do you even know who Jack White is? It was very Jack White. He doesn't need to be anyone else. He's Jack White.
"Blisteringly fun" - if anything is ever "blisteringly fun" than you're probably a masochist.
All Mumford & Sons songs sound alike? Are you only listening to the 3 they play on the radio? Even those 3 are distinguishable from each other.
The lead singer from Fun. almost always wears high water pants. It's kind of his thing.
This author is an idiot. You seriously do this for a living? I wrote better crap than this in high school. It's not entirely your fault, though. Your editor approved it. @Time, I'm disappointed.
RE: The Lumineers review: "...country legend Melissa Etheridge..." WTF? Name one song of Ms. "Bring Me Some Water" Etheridge that hit anywhere on the country charts. Wow.
Really? "Rihanna has a truly beautiful voice and is not just a manufactured product"? That's like saying Hitler was a really nice guy and was not an evil dictator or that a kangaroo is not what it is and is just a giant gerbil. I agree with most of the other comments, whoever wrote this knows nothing about music. There are soooooooOOO many better singers, with talent, (oh, and not to mention, who actually aren't using their image and "risque" things to sell albums, and who are better role models for the girls that worship them) out there in the world, before her and now. That sentence was kind of like the last straw for me. The music industry is trash now, and the way people hail most of today's singers who use their image and autotune to make money comprable to the real singers of years ago is sickening. I realize this and I'm only 16. Maybe singers are supposed to have a level of image control. Put this whole flashy, gaudy, extravagant and sexy thing has gotten out of control.
Who wrote this? This is a terrible article. Does someone actually pay you to write for a living? I couldn't finish reading; I had to stop after number 12. This entire write up is bland and unengaging. Additionally, if you're going to write from an entertainment industry perspective, perhaps learn a little about your subject, first. I hate to be so negative but seriously, Time, find some better writers.
This review of his performance is way to nice. This performance was terrible. I kept thinking that it was a joke and that we was going to bust into something good but unfortunately it did nothing of the sort. BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!!!
Since when is Melissa Etheridge a country artist?? And based on the other comments it is clear that the person writing this article knows nothing about music!
Sadly, this illustrates all too clearly why the music industry is floundering. I agree, less than a minute devoted to acknowledge the contribution of the great Dave Brubeck, performed by masters Corea, Clarke, and Garrett is beyond comprehension of anyone with an inkling of musical sensibility.
An ego burst here for an instant, okay? I know Chick and Stanley, not well but you know. They'd only do something like this if.....
I am hoping that Mavis Staples was "under the weather" last night as her voice was horrible - raspy, unable to sing in the lower register she chose, substituting shouts for singing. I'm seeing her in concert with ruthie foster this Friday and if she sings like this it will be an unbearable night, left to Ruthie to salvage.
If you're old enough to remember when singers were required to use their own voices ... what we're you doing up so late?
Justin overdoes that false voice technique "falsetto". I couldn't wait 'til it was over! I want to hear a real voice....real singing! It's also sad that auto-tune singing by other other artists gets a grammy award! It's not about real talent anymore, in my opinion, a popularity contest.
The guy can't sing without autotune...that was the worst performance of the night. Slow, lackluster, just awful. Cute effect with the running projection but even THAT got old after a minute.
I didnt know what Miranda Lambert looked like and after last night, i give those nice, thick chunky legs an A+. I like 'em "sturdy"
@TimeGUEST Agreed, that's why I stopped watching the Grammy's a few years back when Justin Bieber was nominated... we all know it was not because of his talent at all.
