In London, Elena Rogers won lavish praise for her starring performance as Eva Peron in the revival of Evita. But on Broadway, despite her authentic Argentine pedigree, she seemed like an underpowered pretender in the role that Elaine Paige, Patti LuPone and even Madonna made more memorable. The show got a nomination for best musical revival, but when the Evita in Evita gets snubbed, you have to consider the show a failure.
