Cliff Huxtable

Show: The Cosby Show
Kids: Sondra, Denise, Theo, Vanessa and Rudy
Known for: Funny voices, ugly sweaters
Sometimes we wish Cliff Huxtable was our dad. The Cosby Show turns 25 years old on Sept. 20 and yet the out-of-touch-but-still-kind-of-hip TV father is just as beloved now as when Bill Cosby debuted him in 1984. Working from home gave the successful obstetrician plenty of time to console a lovelorn Theo, reprimand Vanessa for doing something annoying or give Rudy and her friends piggyback rides. But Cliff wasn’t just a great dad, he was a funny one too. Cosby imbued the character with his best impersonations, dance numbers and comedy routines, turning Cliff into a the kind of father everyone wanted for their own. Oh, and did we mention his hot lawyer wife, Clair? She’s even cooler than he was.
Ward Cleaver

Show: Leave It to Beaver
Kids: Wally, Theodore
Known for: All-Americanness, Moral Lessons
Just call Ward Cleaver the anti-Archie. During his run on Leave It To Beaver, Cleaver, played by Hugh Beaumont, was always at hand with a bit of moral guidance for his two sons. As far as we can tell, he’s a flawless father — he goes to work, comes home, loves his family and barbecues. That said, some of his wisdom now seems a little dated (as the clip above shows.) Still, is Ward a good dad? Sure. An interesting one? Not so much.
