From 30 Rock to the Middle East, it looks like Tina Fey will be doing The Taliban Shuffle for her next film project.
According to The Wrap, funnywoman Fey will produce and star in the movie version of journalist Kim Barker’s 2012 memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan for Paramount. The book recounts Barker’s time as a war reporter in the region, where she arrived in 2002, able to speak only English, and soon found herself becoming an “adrenaline junkie,” hooked on the thrill of danger.
While the story of a reporter working in a deadly war zone might not exactly seem like a laugh factory, Barker’s book is described as “darkly comic.” What’s more, Fey’s long-time collaborator Robert Carlock—who worked with her as a writer on both Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock—is penning the script and SNL creator Lorne Michaels will also be producing. So we can expect a good dose of humor—dark as it may be—along with the flak jackets.
