The Oscar-nominated director of American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbooks is bringing a new television series to ABC.
The network ordered a 13-episode drama from David O. Russell and Erin Brockovich writer Susannah Grant, Deadline reports. The website describes the series as an “upstairs/downstairs soap set at a private country club,” which almost sounds like the American version of Downton Abbey many of us have been waiting for.
The still-untitled television series will be the first from Russell, whose 2013 film American Hustle earned Oscar nominations in 10 categories last week, including Best Picture, Best Director and all four of the acting categories. His 2012 film Silver Linings Playbook scored Jennifer Lawrence her first Oscar win last year for her role as a mentally ill widow. So there’s no doubt that all of Hollywood’s best and brightest will be vying to appear in the show.
